Indie Author | Screenwriter | Filmmaker

Tommy Tutalo is a New Jersey–born author and visual artist whose work explores the human experience through storytelling, place, and culture. Working across novels, nonfiction, screenwriting, and visual media, his projects move fluidly between social realism and lyrical imagination.

In recent years, Tutalo has embraced artificial intelligence as a creative collaborator—using AI to expand ideation, accelerate development, and explore new narrative possibilities while maintaining a distinctly human voice. This adaptive approach allows him to create stories across formats more fluidly, bridging traditional craft with emerging technology in both writing and filmmaking.

He is the author of Esperanza, a critically acclaimed novel examining life along the U.S.–Mexico border; The Mime, a magical-realist tale set in Oaxaca about finding one’s voice; An Indie Author’s Way, a reflection on the creative process; and Modest Marine, a historical account honoring his grandfather’s service in World War II. Alongside his writing, Tutalo documents Mexican culture through Solano Exp, capturing landscapes, people, and traditions with a cinematic eye.

Raised in a blue-collar, ethnically diverse community in West Orange, New Jersey, Tutalo’s work is shaped by perseverance, discipline, and curiosity—values first forged through competitive soccer and later refined through formal training in art history. Whether through words, images, or emerging tools, his work remains grounded in story, memory, and the enduring power of place.
